Metacleaner for JIRA Cloud

We are delighted to announce that last Friday, March 22 Atlassian published our Metacleaner product on its marketplace, as an add-on to JIRA Cloud.  

There’s a free trial version available for one month for all those interested in testing the tool in their JIRA cloud instance. 

What is Metacleaner? 

Metacleaner is a product developed by ODS that removes metadata from files uploaded as attachments to JIRA issues. Metacleaner transparently removes metadata information while keeping document content intact. 

Attaching files to Issues is very useful but can also be dangerous. When we upload a file, it usually has several details about our identity that can compromise our privacy. 

Metacleaner for Jira solves this issue in a simple and reliable way. 

  

What are the metadata of a file? 

Metadata is “data that provides information about other data”. 

When we generate a file, be it an image, a text document or a video, we enter data that contains those files, that is, its content. But, in turn, other data (metadata) that we do not control is automatically generated. These metadata are used to describe the file itself, when it was generated, from what device, the location of origin … etc. 

For a regular user, metadata is a useful resource to index files, data such as the documet’s creation date, the place, the author that created it, size, last modification date … etc . 

However, if this information falls in the wrong hands, details about our identity that can compromise our privacy be used for illicit purposes. 

 

Delete metadata from your files 

Every time a new file is shared Metacleaner will automatically remove the metadata of the file by replacing the file with a clean copy. Only the metadata is removed, the content of the file is kept intact.
