The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is an international organisation where computing experts meet to talk about cybersecurity with the goal of raising awareness of this field to individuals and businesses.

The meeting was organised by the chapter leaders of OWASP Canarias: Sergiu Mesesan, Daniel Fernández, Efrén Díaz, part of the team who is also behind the Open Data Security.

“Desde el DVR, hasta la cocina” was the first presentation led by Daniel Fernández and Efrén Díaz. They showed the audience how they could get into a system by exploiting a security breach found in the software of a camera, something that also let them acceding sensitive data of the business they were hacking.

The second presentation, “#tenerifelicidad”, was headed by Deepak Daswani. It was based on vulnerabilities of services like how he hacked the Wi-Fi of a coffee shop or the website of the Tenerife Football Club.

“Ignorancia inalámbrica” was the name of the third presentation led by Sergiu Mesesan. He talked about network security, and he showed that your data might be at risk if your network is not well configured. Also, Sergiu gave to his audience some tips to increase the security of routers.

Finally, the event was closed up with the talk of Sergiu Popa. “Up and… pwning” presentation was about how to compromise the security of servers. Once again, Tenerife was the chosen place to talk about cybersecurity. Despite this being the first OWASP Canarias meeting, it won’t be the last one, and we will have another sooner.
